Current Ontario rebates, checked September 2026
GTS Windows & Doors has installed ENERGY STAR rated windows and doors for homeowners across Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph and the surrounding townships since 1986. We are a licensed, insured and WSIB-covered installer and a SAWDAC member, and we see how often rebate questions shape a window project. Because the rules change often, we keep this page current for the homeowners, landlords and property managers we work with.
Right now, the main window replacement rebate in Ontario is the Home Renovation Savings program, which pays $100 per ENERGY STAR window or door rough opening when it is part of an assessed project with at least two upgrades. The catch for our area is heating fuel. Homes heated by electricity, oil, propane or wood on the Ontario grid can qualify, but gas-heated homes qualify only if Enbridge Gas is the supplier.
That matters here because most homes in the City of Kitchener buy natural gas from the city-owned Kitchener Utilities, not Enbridge, while Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph and the townships are generally Enbridge territory. We last checked every program on this page on September 30, 2026. Confirm the details with the program before you sign a contract, because funding and rules can change without much notice.
Home Renovation Savings is delivered by the Independent Electricity System Operator through Save on Energy, together with Enbridge Gas. It launched in January 2025, and program partners report it is currently scheduled to run until November 30, 2026, although the terms allow changes at any time.

If you are already planning window replacement plus insulation, air sealing or a heat pump, the bundle requirement is easy to meet. If windows are your only upgrade, the rebate will not apply.
You must own the home, and it must be a detached or semi-detached house, a row or townhome, or a mobile home on a permanent foundation. Gas-heated homes need an active Enbridge Gas account, and homes heated with electricity, oil, propane or wood must be connected to the Ontario electricity grid. The program FAQ states that homes heated mainly by natural gas from a supplier other than Enbridge are not eligible.
The rebate is $100 per rough opening for eligible windows, doors, sliding doors and skylights. The minimum is three window openings, or one door, one skylight or one sliding door opening. A 12-window job would qualify for $1,200, which is helpful but covers only a small share of a typical project.
An approved service organization must complete an initial home energy assessment before any window or door work begins. You then need at least two qualifying upgrades, and windows and doors count as one upgrade however many you replace. A follow-up assessment closes the file, and the program says rebates arrive by mail within about 60 days.
Every window and door must be an ENERGY STAR certified model. Under NRCan's Version 5.0 specification, residential windows need a U-factor of 1.22 W/m²·K or lower, or an Energy Rating of 34 or higher. The full criteria are on NRCan's ENERGY STAR windows and doors page.
For natural gas heat, the program FAQ says only Enbridge Gas customers are eligible, and most homes inside the City of Kitchener get their gas from Kitchener Utilities. As of September 30, 2026, a Kitchener home heated mainly by Kitchener Utilities gas does not meet that rule.
A change may be coming. In August 2025, City of Kitchener staff report INS-2025-350 recommended that Kitchener Utilities join the program through a one-window approach and sign a service agreement with Enbridge Gas to deliver it to Kitchener Utilities customers.
We could not confirm that this arrangement is live, and the Kitchener Utilities current offers page does not list a window or door rebate. Call Kitchener Utilities or the program before paying for an assessment, and let us know what you hear so we can keep this page accurate.
Outside Kitchener, natural gas across our service area is generally delivered by Enbridge Gas, which absorbed Union Gas in 2019. Utility boundaries do not always follow municipal lines, so the name on your gas bill is what counts.

The Canada Greener Homes Grant is closed. Applications ran from May 2021 to February 2024, and Ontario participants had until December 1, 2025 to finish their post-retrofit evaluations.
The interest-free Canada Greener Homes Loan also stopped taking applications, with October 1, 2025 the last day to apply after its funding was fully committed. Homeowners with an approved loan keep their funding.
The newer Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program, announced in September 2025, pays for direct-install retrofits that can include windows and doors for low- to median-income households. It runs through provincial agreements, and at last check Ontario had not signed one, so there is no way to apply from Waterloo Region yet.
We are not energy advisors and cannot apply on your behalf, since approved service organizations handle the assessments. What we can do is make sure the window and door part of your project is rebate-ready.

Not in the traditional sense for most homeowners. The federal Canada Greener Homes Grant stopped taking applications in February 2024, and today's main option is a rebate paid after the work is done. Low-income households in Guelph may qualify for city grants through Guelph Greener Homes.
Not under the old name. Enbridge's Home Efficiency Rebate ended intake on January 27, 2025, and Home Efficiency Rebate Plus is also closed. Enbridge Gas now co-delivers the Home Renovation Savings program, which is where today's $100 per opening window rebate comes from.
