Patio Doors
Patio doors connect kitchens and family rooms to decks and walkouts, and they carry the largest area of glass in most houses. We install both sliding and hinged patio doors with low-E glass, insulated frames and a flashed sill that sheds water away from the subfloor.

Screen and Storm Doors
A good screen door lets you run the house on cross breezes in June without inviting mosquitoes in. We fit hinged screen doors, retractable screens for French doors, replacement patio screens and combination storm doors through our screen and storm door service.
One caution: a glass storm door over a sun-facing entry door can trap enough heat to warp the slab or bake its finish. We check the colour, material and exposure of your door before recommending glass.
Door Repairs
Not every door problem needs a new door. A slider that drags, a French door that will not latch or a front door with daylight under the sweep can often be fixed with hinge adjustments, a relocated strike, a new sweep or fresh weatherstripping.

Door Installation FAQs
Should I replace just the door slab or the whole pre-hung unit?
A slab swap only works when the existing frame is square, the sill is solid and the new slab can be machined to match the old hinge and lock positions. Many doors in 1970s to 1990s Waterloo Region homes have soft sills or worn jamb weatherstrip, and a slab swap leaves those problems in place. We check the frame with a level and probe the sill before recommending either option.
How long does it take to install an exterior door?
A single pre-hung entry door is usually removed, installed, insulated and trimmed in half a day to a full day. Doors with sidelights, rot repairs or new exterior capping can take a full day or a little longer. Factory lead time before install day is typically 2 to 8 weeks, depending on size, glass and finish.
Can you install a new door in winter?
Yes, we install doors year-round. The old door stays in place until the new unit is on site and checked, and the opening is typically exposed for well under an hour while the new frame is set. We use cold-weather sealants and foam and keep interior doors closed to limit heat loss.
What is the most energy-efficient exterior door?
An insulated fibreglass or steel door with a polyurethane foam core, compression weatherstrip, an adjustable sill and a tight sweep will outperform a typical wood door by a wide margin. Look for an ENERGY STAR certified model, low-E glass in any lites, and only as much glass as you need. The rating only holds if the frame is installed square and air sealed to the wall.
