Parts and labour covered for 20 years

Our 20-Year Window Warranty on Parts and Labour

Every window and door installed by GTS Windows & Doors is backed by a 20-year parts and labour warranty. In plain terms, if a covered part fails, the replacement part and the work to fit it are both included, and your first call is to us. The warranty applies to the windows and doors we supply and install.

We have installed windows and doors in Kitchener-Waterloo homes and businesses since 1986, and that experience is why we treat labour as part of the promise. Many warranties in this industry cover the window or door itself but say little about the cost of a technician to diagnose and fix it, which is often the larger part of a service call. A warranty that pays for the glass but not the visit to fit it can still leave you with a sizeable bill.

This page explains what a parts and labour warranty like ours typically covers, what it does not, how it works alongside the manufacturer's product warranty and how to make a claim. Your signed contract and written warranty document set out the exact terms for your job, and they take priority over this general summary. If anything in your paperwork is unclear, ask us to walk through it before you sign.

What the Warranty Covers

Seal failure is a common example. If a covered sealed unit starts fogging between the panes, the replacement glass unit and the labour to install it fall under the warranty.

  • Parts: components of the windows and doors we supply, such as sealed glass units, hardware, operators, locks, rollers and weatherstripping, that fail under normal use
  • Labour: the time to diagnose the problem and to remove and replace the failed part
  • Installation: defects in how we fitted the unit, such as air or water leaking at the frame joint

What Isn't Covered

Like most installation warranties, ours protects against product and workmanship defects, not every kind of damage. Typical exclusions include the following.

  • Accidental breakage, impact, break-ins, vandalism or storm damage
  • Damage from alterations or repairs made by others
  • Products GTS did not supply or install
  • Normal wear and cosmetic weathering, such as minor fading
  • Room-side condensation caused by high indoor humidity
  • Water entering through the wall, roof or siding rather than the unit

Manufacturer Warranty vs Our Installation Warranty

Most window and door manufacturers issue their own product warranty, with terms that vary by component. Our 20-year parts and labour warranty works alongside it, so you have one local company to call instead of chasing a factory.

Is the Warranty Transferable?

Whether coverage passes to a new owner depends on the terms in your written warranty, and manufacturer warranties have their own transfer rules. If you plan to sell, ask us to confirm the transfer terms in writing so you can hand the paperwork to the buyer.

How to Make a Warranty Claim

01

Contact Us

Call 226-806-0597 or email info@gtswindows.ca with your name, address, installation date and a description of the problem. Photos help us bring the right parts.

02

We Assess the Problem

We review what you send and book a visit to inspect the window or door and confirm the cause.

03

Repair or Replacement

Covered parts are ordered and fitted at no charge for parts or labour. If a part needs ordering, we make the opening secure and weathertight in the meantime.

Keeping Your Warranty Valid

A few common home projects can affect coverage. Talk to us before making any of these changes.

  • Aftermarket window film: some films, especially dark or reflective ones applied inside sealed units, raise glass temperature and can void glass coverage. Ask about our window film and tinting options first.
  • Storm doors: a full-glass storm door over a dark entry door can trap heat and warp the door or its seals. A vented screen door is usually the safer choice.
  • Painting vinyl: paint, especially dark colours, can cause vinyl frames to warp and usually voids frame coverage.
  • Routine care: keep tracks and drain holes clear, and check exterior caulking every few years. Our caulking and sealing service can reseal tired joints.
  • Other trades: let us know before anyone else modifies or repairs a unit we installed.

Warranty FAQs

Do you offer lifetime warranty windows?

Some companies advertise lifetime warranties, but these often cover only certain components, may be prorated, can be limited to the original owner and frequently exclude or cap labour. Our warranty is 20 years and covers both parts and labour for that full term. When comparing quotes, check what each warranty actually pays for, not just how long it lasts.

Does the warranty cover glass breakage?

Breakage from an impact, such as a ball, a stone thrown by a mower or a break-in, is accidental damage and is generally not covered. Seal failure that causes fogging is a product defect and is typically covered. We can replace broken glass as a separate glass replacement job, and your home insurance may help with the cost.

Does the warranty apply to commercial work?

Commercial projects receive written warranty terms as part of each contract. Storefront systems, door closers and other commercial hardware can carry different manufacturer terms, so we spell out coverage at the quote stage. Learn more about our commercial window and door work.
