Windows and doors for commercial property since 1986

Commercial Window & Door Installation in Waterloo Region

GTS Windows & Doors has installed windows and doors in Waterloo Region since 1986, and our commercial work runs alongside our residential side from the same base at 47 Bridge Street East in Kitchener. We install and repair aluminum windows, storefront entrances, steel doors and frames, and commercial door hardware for buildings in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph and the surrounding townships. Typical buildings include retail plazas, low-rise offices, apartment and condominium buildings, light industrial units and institutional sites.

Our commercial clients are property managers, condominium boards, business owners, commercial real estate owners and general contractors. They need a trade that arrives when scheduled, works safely around tenants and customers, and leaves the building secure at the end of every shift. They also expect insurance and WSIB paperwork to be in order well before the first day on site.

We are licensed and insured, registered with WSIB, and a member of SAWDAC, the Siding and Window Dealers Association of Canada. Our installations carry a 20-year parts and labour warranty, and our Google rating stands at 4.5 stars from 31 reviews. Every commercial quote is itemized by opening, so owners, boards and project teams can see exactly what they are approving before work is scheduled.

How Commercial Projects Run

Commercial work lives or dies on planning. This is the sequence we follow on most projects, scaled to the size of the job.

01

Site Survey and Measurement

Every job starts with a site visit to measure openings, check the surrounding structure and note access limits such as loading docks or street frontage. On new construction, we field-verify rough openings before ordering, because drawings and as-built dimensions do not always agree.

02

Shop Drawings and Submittals

Where a project calls for them, we coordinate shop drawings, product data and hardware schedules for review by the architect or general contractor. Nothing is released for fabrication until those documents are approved.

03

Working Around Occupied Buildings

We phase work by floor, suite or entrance and give property managers the dates they need to issue tenant notices. Our hours run from 7:00am to 9:00pm Monday to Saturday, so disruptive work can be booked before a store opens or after an office empties.

04

Safety, WSIB and Site Requirements

We provide a WSIB clearance certificate and proof of insurance before mobilizing, and we follow your site orientation and safety plan. Ontario requires approved working at heights training for workers who use fall protection on construction projects, and that applies to our crews on lifts and scaffolds.

Storefront, Window Wall and Curtain Wall Explained

These three terms get mixed up constantly, and the difference matters when you are scoping or tendering a job. All three are non-load-bearing glazed systems, but they are supported, engineered and installed very differently.

  • What we do: storefront framing and glazing, glass and aluminum entrance doors, and commercial windows set in punched openings.
  • What we do not do: curtain wall and window wall systems, which call for specialized glazing contractors and engineered designs. If your project needs them, we will tell you at the first call.

Typical Commercial Jobs We Quote

We only publish project details with an owner's permission, so here are the kinds of commercial jobs we are commonly asked to price. Completed work is shared on our commercial projects page as it is documented.

  • Plaza entrance refresh: replacing a worn aluminum entrance door, closer and threshold at a strip plaza unit before opening hours.
  • Low-rise apartment window program: swapping original sliders for commercial-grade vinyl units a few suites at a time, with notices issued by the property manager.
  • Warehouse service doors: new steel doors and frames at a light industrial unit where the old frames have rusted through at the base.
  • Office window upgrade: replacing single-glazed or non-thermally broken aluminum windows with thermally broken units in an older low-rise office.
  • Tenant fit-out doors: supplying and installing interior and exterior doors for a general contractor on a retail or clinic fit-out.

Questions From Property Managers and Contractors

Can you work after hours to avoid disrupting tenants?

Yes. Our hours run 7:00am to 9:00pm Monday to Saturday and 9:00am to 5:00pm on Sunday, so noisy or disruptive work can be scheduled early, in the evening or on a weekend. Work outside those hours can be discussed for specific projects.

Do you provide shop drawings for general contractors?

On projects that require them, we coordinate shop drawings, product data and hardware schedules for your review before anything is ordered. Tell us at the tender stage what the specification calls for, and we will confirm exactly what we can submit.

Do you handle urgent commercial glass and door repairs?

Yes. Call us at 226-806-0597 and we will tell you honestly how quickly a crew can attend. Our priority is to make the entrance or opening secure first, then schedule the permanent repair once glass or parts are ordered.

Can you supply WSIB clearance and insurance certificates?

Yes. We provide a current WSIB clearance certificate and a certificate of insurance before work starts, and we reissue clearance on longer projects as each certificate expires. You can also check our clearance status directly through WSIB.

Request a Commercial Site Visit

Send us the address, building type and a short description of the openings, and we will book a site survey. You will receive a written scope and quote you can take to owners, boards or your project team.
